Who we are

Tarniel is a small self-drive rental company in Salford with one Moskvich 5 and a reserve car behind it. We deliver and collect free inside the M60, so there is no depot, no counter and no queue.

Why we talk about driving rather than features

Very little of what exists in English about this car was written by anyone who has driven one. Specification sheets get copied between sites, opinions get formed from photographs, and the result is a lot of confident writing about a car nobody involved has sat in.

We are in the unusual position of driving ours between every hire. So instead of listing features, we published what the car is actually like from the driver's seat, including the slip-road behaviour that annoys people and the steering that tells you nothing.

What we do between hires

The car does not sit still between bookings. We drive it, which is how the driving notes on this site stay current rather than being written once and left. It also means a developing noise or a change in how the gearbox picks up gets noticed by somebody who knows what it sounded like last month, instead of being reported by a customer halfway through a week.

How we quote

A written total before you commit, with insurance, breakdown, delivery and mileage inside it. Nothing appears at the keys. If the dates are taken, we tell you they are taken rather than take a deposit and work it out later. Ask about yours.
